Lahore: Higher Education Department (HED) Punjab has asked the government sector universities to increase the security as there were some reports of possible terrorist activities, particularly at the beginning of New Year.
According to the sources in the department, instructions were forwarded to the varsities following a threat alert from the Home Department.

In the meantime, an official said the department had moved a summary to the CM of Punjab for acting vice chancellors (VCs) at four government sector universities of the province on the orders of Lahore High Court (LHC).
A division bench of the LHC had recently ordered the provisional appointment of Dr Zafar Mueen Nasar, Dr Rukhsana Kausar, Dr Ishtiaq Ahmed and Dr Mohammad Zubair, as the vice chancellors of Punjab University, Lahore College for Women University, University of Sargodha and Nawaz Sharif University of Engineering and Technology Multan, respectively.

The court had picked up these names for the seats of VCs from a list of nominees already finalized by the VCs Search Committee of the government.
According to the official sources, the department will issue notification of these appointments when the approval from CM and the governor or chancellor was received.
