HEC told to certify FJMU degrees

Lahore: On Monday, the Lahore High Court ordered the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to verify the degrees of aspirants issued to them by Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) within two weeks.

Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza was hearing a petition filed by Khadijatul Kubra and large number of other aspirants who passed their MBBS from Fatima Jinnah Medical College (FJMC) however the HEC refused to verify their degrees because Fatima Jinnah Medical College was not a part institute of the Fatima Jinnah Medical University.

The requesters through counsel stated that they completed their MBBS degrees and were duly issued degrees. Though, they said that they had not been permitted to do house job as Higher Education Commission was not ready to verify their degrees.

The requesters claimed that their career was at risk because of the act of commission. They asked court to order the higher education commission to verify their degrees permitting them to begin new house job.

During the hearing, a law officer told the court that the government of the Punjab had issued a notification announcing the FJMC to be the constituent college of the FJMU. He said a similar notification from the federal government will be issued soon.

The officer moreover said that the degrees of the petitioners will be certified by the commission according to an undertaking given by the counsel of commission.

Justice Mirza disposed of the petition ordering the higher education commission to verify the degrees of the aspirants within 2 weeks.
