Lahore: A working group of 5 varsities as well as a home department’s bureau has been tasked along with searching causes for child beggary as well as submitting remedial measures to the government in order to make children the useful residents of the country.

The group will study this matter in the light of statistics, socioeconomic issues, family environment etc. The group comprises of University of the Punjab (PU), Forman Christian College (FCC), Virtual University (VU), Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), University of Management and Technology (UMT) as well as the Child Protection Bureau.

Lahore commissioner Abdullah Khan Sumbal while heading a meeting on Monday said that:


“In the light of the terms of reference (ToR) issued by the individual provincial department, the aspirants of statistics, social work/sociology and psychology should also be involved in the group.”


He furthermore said that the government had assigned this task to all sectors, including Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Multan, DG Khan and Bahawalpur as well.

The departments concerned in the districts were instructed to render full cooperation to teams of the working group, he added.

This meeting arranged on Monday was attended by professors of the above mentioned universities, additional district collectors (general), additional commissioner as well as some other concerned officials.
