Govt. College of Home Economics Held 44th Annual Convocation

Lahore, “Time is precious and hard work is key to success never forget your roots if you achieve something in life” said the Governor addressing the students on Annual Convocation of College of Home Economics, Gulberg, Lahore.

The 44th annual convocation of govt. college of Home Economics Gulberg, Lahore was held on Tuesday, 24th December, 2013 Governor Punjab, Chaudhary Mohammad Sarwar graced the occasion as the chief guest. Mrs. Lubna Faisal (MPA) and Director Education Lahore Rana Nasim Akhtar Anjum were also present on this occasion. The Principal Prof. Dr Samia kalsoom welcomed the guests of honor and presented the Annual Report of  the College.

For the students, it was a great day. A time of fruition , a time of fulfilment. With bumping hearts and flushed faces, the students received their degrees, prizes, certificates, rolls of honor and medals among cheerful claps from parents, teachers and companions. 154 students of MSc  received degrees 15 students of M.Phil got their degrees, 4 students clinched certificates of diploma, 4 students bagged gold medals and roll of honor , 8 students got gold medals and special Awards,21 girls received prizes for their 1st , 2nd , 3rd positions in their respective classes. Those who got first prizes in the classes are Hira Zahid Bs (Part I) 1st year, Aqsa Nasarullah Bs part I 2nd year, Mina Butt Bs (Part II) 1st year, Nehdia Ahmad Bs Part II 2nd  Year, Saima Ahmad MSc Part I , Rahme Sadiq Msc. Part II and Maimoona Khalid M. Phil Part II.

The Principal Professor Dr. Samia Kalsoom in her address Congratulated the students, their parents and teachers, stressing the importance of perseverance and hard work Prof. Dr. Samia Kalsoom  remarked, “ The secret to Success anywhere lies in commitment and hard work.” While presenting the Annual Report, she highlighted the curricular and co- curricular activities being carried out in the college. She mentioned the practical support of   Food and Nutrition Department in Brest Cancer, and their invaluable seminars on health, incessant efforts of the Science Deptt for Dengue Awareness Seminars, Walks, poster competitions and dengue detection desk, she also mentioned the renovation of the College Entrance   and Conference Room by Housing Home Management Deptt in which 13 Students also participated Dress show of dresses designed & stitched by the students of Textiles and Clotting Deptt, Annual Play Smoke Screens by English Deptt. HDFS Department set up a Speech Therapy Room with the financial support of Mr Iqbal Qarshi of Qarshi Industries.

Besides this, a Gymnasium for hostellites, two water- filtration plants with the help of Education Department have also been set up. The Art Deptt of the College painted a mural at 8x6 during a international Conference at Aiwan-i- Iqbal, depicting the success story of the fight against Dengue.

Principal Prof Dr. Samia Kalsoom requested the Governor for a special grant for the financial support for the college  Display Center, up gradation of Nursery School, repair and maintenance of the College Building, construction of shed for the buses, Day Care Centre, up gradation of library and special quota in Govt. jobs for the students of Home Economics, She also requested the Chief Guest for 5 Scholarships for the students of HOMEC to study in foreign universities.

The Governor Punjab. Ch. Mohammad Sarwar Congraulated the students and highly appreciated the efforts of the Principal Prof, Dr. Samia Kalsoom and the faculty members.
