Government To Implement Single National Curriculum At Primary Level

The government has announced to set up a single national curriculum at the primary level. According to the sources, the curriculum has been prepared and textbooks are under publication for the students as per the requirement. The federal education minister and the national curriculum council said that the SNC will be introduced from the next academic session. The government officials will implement the curriculum in various phases. Initially, the syllabus will be introduced for the students of the primary classes that include prep to 5th class from the academic session of 2021. The syllabus for the secondary level class (6th to 8th class) will be implemented in 2022. In the final phase, the single national curriculum will be introduced for the students of the class 9th to 12th. According to the national curriculum council apart from Mathematics and English, all the other books will be published in Urdu. The teacher can use the medium of instruction depending upon their choice. 

Reservations Against SNC

Among all the provinces, the Sindh has expressed reservations against the decision of the federal ministry to implement the single national curriculum. The Sindh education minister stated that they will not adopt the SNC as the syllabus of Sindh province is already updated according to the current requirements. In this regard, the education minister has decided to hold a meeting with the Sindh education minister to discuss this matter as everyone should be on board before the final launch. 

The Need For a Single Curriculum

Shafqat Mahmood has said that to offer the equal opportunities to all the students across the country it is necessary to introduce the unified syllabus at the national level. In this way, the class-based education system will come to an end. The government is determined to act upon this decision as the SNC has been devised in compliance with the international standards. It is furthermore mentioned by the minister that due to the coronavirus pandemic the schedule of the new academic session has not been confirmed but the federal government is ready to introduce SNC whether the session will start in April or August.
