Islamabad: First-ever Asian Libraries Conference will be organize here at Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) in the first week of September this year for the promotion of book-reading culture and to strengthen research-based academic work at higher education level.
This conference is being organized by the Pakistan Library Association in association along with Allama Iqbal Open University and Department of Libraries, government of Pakistan. It would be a 2-day event, to be take part by the representatives of national libraries from home and foreign countries.
This conference is targeted at improving the regional cooperation in respect of knowledge and resource sharing. The part takers of conferment will share their knowledge and experience to make the library a strong and exceptional source of academic research.
Vice chancellor of Allama Iqbal Open University Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui said that they will extend the necessary support to the organizer of conference to make the event successful.
The university has already upgraded its Central library as model one for the book worms and lovers, he added. Dr Siddiqui, moreover said that AIOU has already decided to associate its Central Library, which is open for general public, along with the advanced and automation system and presently the university is offering best library facilities to the readers via online automatic digital system.
The library remains open from 8:30 am to 8:00 pm on all working days, including Saturday.
