Karachi: The federal government will be offering NED University of Engineering & Technology Rs. 900 million over the next 3 years to help in the completion of numerous mega projects that have been started at the varsity campus.

This announcement was made by Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal during inauguration of the Advanced Material Testing Laboratory at NED’s Department of Earthquake Engineering.

He furthermore said that the government is doing everything to renovate the universities crosswise the country and for that purpose numerous projects have been started in different universities.

As per Ahsan Iqbal, the government has allocated Rs. 1500 billion to accomplish the above mentioned targets at universities. Double the amount has been set aside for the improvement at education at the high school level.


“From the year 2010 to 2013, Rs. 100 billion were given for the higher education after that the grant was increased to Rs. 2015 billion from the year 2013 to 2016.”


Ahsan Iqbal has been investing for improving the education status in the country as he believes it directly contributes to the better economic growth. In the beginning of this month, he succeeded in his efforts for increase in the upper age limit of the CSS exam. Only few days back, the minister headed over a meeting that focused on the dire need of promoting STEM education in schools.

Last month when the provincial budgets were disclosed, all provinces allotted large sums for the betterment of the education system. However, like always, what remains to be seen is some actual good materialize out of it.
