The two projects, EcoSens-Wireless Sensor and also the Actuator Network, gran the top position at the Global DIY Project Design competition.

Though, second position was secured by another team from FAST known as the Ball Bot. these teams are the part are of the research group entitled as the Consensys at FAST.

The DIY project competition is an international contest involving technical ideas presented by students and engineers from around the world.

The competition invites the projects associated with robotics, wearable technology, software, hardware as well as the alternate energy devices.

The winning team of the competition was led by Usman Maqsood and also involved Amir Salman and Reeba Raza. They made a networked wireless monitoring along with the control system by utilizing the sensor networks that records the temperature, humidity and light as well.

The adviser Assistant of the team, Professor Omer Saleem Bhatti while sharing his experience said that the project had commercial applications. He also added that the device monitored the environment and also utilized the machine-learning to keep the preferences of consumers. He said it had an integrated learning algorithm that can adjust itself to the according to the requirements of the consumers.

He moreover said that, “the beauty of the device is that it has a lot if applications and it can be fine-tuned to do a bit more.”

He added that the device, away from the environment regulation, can work like a fire alarm system and a thief detection system.

USman Maqsood said that the project comprised of nodes of small devices that represented like sensors and could be positioned in different rooms of a building. He claimed that the sensors transferred data to a central place.

He also added that the control mechanism can be accessed online, creating it an accessible device for homes as well as for offices.

He said a device along with the 6 nodes will cost almost Rs20, 000. The team that attained the 2nd prize was also directed by Bhatti.

The members of the team were Osama bin Tariq, Ozair Ali Khan and Aneeq Manzar. Their project was the unresponsive feedback control system. The robot balances itself on a basketball utilizing the dynamic stability and can move in any way.
