FAO Resource Center Launched in Sindh Agriculture University

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) have launched a resource center at Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam on Sunday. The resource center aims at promoting use of technology for development of agriculture sector in Pakistan and builds a strong co- operational bond between farmers and research scholars to increase growth of corps.

‘This centre will improve delivery to agriculture sector and help encourage joint investment and strategies for sustainable agriculture development in the province’, said the representative of FAO in Pakistan, Mina Dowlatchahi during the launching ceremony of resource center. The resource center was launched under FAO programme of ‘Improved Land Tenancy in Sindh Province (ILTS)’.

Improved Land Tenancy in Sindh Province (ILTS) is financed by European Union and eight provinces of Sindh. This project is initiated to eradicate malnutrition, security of food, preserving natural and land resources, improvement in agriculture production and helping farmers to adopt climate change conditions. These measures are taken to avoid draught like situations through FAO programmes.

Bachelor’s Degree Students of Faculty of Life Sciences PU Will Be Given Scholarships on Publishing of Impact Factor Research Papers: Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad Akhtar

For the Bachelor’s degree programme students of faculty of life sciences Punjab University, the Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad Akhtar has announced upon publishing one research paper in impact factor journal the students will receive fee waiver and those who will publish two research papers in impact factor journal will get totally free of cost admissions in MS and PhD programmes.

The VC also announced that the students who will publish more research papers in Impact factor journal will receive a cash prize as an award. He said that effective research is required for socio-economic development of society and urged the students to do research. He said the PU administration will offer financial and technical support for execution of research projects to the students.

Research based education and successful research projects will increase rankings of Punjab University in international rankings, he said. He announced this while he was attending an event in faculty of life sciences. Faculty of Life Sciences PU Dean Prof Dr Firdous-e-Barin has produced 432 research papers in impact factor journals and has worked on 108 research projects in 2018.

The Dean welcomed the offer by VC with utter delight and said she will encourage the alumni of faculty of life sciences to do research work efficiently. The faculty members, top administration, students and Prof Dr Shahida Husnain, Prof Dr Waheed Akhter and Prof Dr A R Shakoori of faculty of life sciences PU were present during the event.

Fata University is Functioning without a VC for More Than a Month

The only federally administrated university in tribal areas is going through financial and administrative deformities because of vacant VC seat. Fata University is working under Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Universities Act 2012. The employees are complaining for delay in their salaries and construction work in on hold due to clearance of bills.
