LAHORE, The University of Health Sciences (UHS) will continue with its ‘self-scoring system’ introduced last year, says vice-chancellor Prof Malik Husain Mubashar.

At an orientation seminar on medical entrance test at Alhamra Hall here on Monday, the vice-chancellor said the university would upload the answer keys of question paper on its website after the test. The candidates would be able to calculate their scores with the help of a carbon copy of their response form which they would retain after the test.

He said it was mandatory to pass the July 20 entrance test to get admission to any public or private sector medical or dental college of the province. Minimum percentage of marks required to pass the entrance test had been increased from last year’s 40 per cent to 60 per cent this year.

The vice-chancellor said the UHS had issued roll number slips to over 32,000 eligible candidates and had advised them to reach their respective centres at least one hour before the commencement of the test.

“Entrances to all centre will be closed at 8:15am and nobody will be allowed to enter the examination hall after that time,” he added.

Prof Mubashar said candidates would be given a sealed test pack containing a question paper and a response form (answer sheet) with bar codes which would be opened at 9am.

“Entrance test question paper contains 220 multiple choice questions (MCQs), each carrying five marks. Total time allowed for the test will be two and a half hours. There will be four sections in the question paper i.e. Biology 70 MCQs; chemistry 60, Physics 60; and English 30 MCQs. The candidates will answer the test by filling the circles on the response form. Only one circle must be filled for one question. Filling more than one circles for a single question will be considered a wrong answer,” he said.

He said there would be negative marking in the test and for each wrong answer one mark would be deducted from the total score of every candidate.

Prof Mubashar advised the candidates not to take any calculator, cell phone or notes with them inside the examination hall.

“Candidates are only allowed to bring blue ballpoints with them and not any markers or pencils,” he said.Students were informed that there would be two separate tests on the same day for FSc and non-FSc candidates.

These tests would be prepared from their respective books and syllabi which were also available on UHS website www.uhs.edu.pk

The vice-chancellor said it was the Punjab government’s decision not to charge any fee from the candidates for the test and to hold the entrance test earlier in July this year as it would provide an opportunity to students to relax after their higher secondary exam while they were waiting for their admissions in medical and dental colleges and also it would save them from clutches of the academy mafias. About 3,000 students and their parents attended the seminar.
