Chinese University to Award Fully Funded SZU Scholarships to Pakistani PhD Students 

On Thursday, Shenzhen University (SZU), China has signed a MoU with HEC to award fully funded scholarships to Pakistani students at split PhD, doctoral and post doctoral levels. Under this MoU both of the institutes will collaborate and establish institutional linkages, conduct joint research initiatives and exchange of faculty and students.
President, Shenzhen University Prof. Li Qingquan and HEC Chairman MR. Dr. Tariq Banuri singed the MoU. Dr. Tariq Banuri thanked SZU China for providing fully funded scholarship to Pakistani students for PhD and post doctoral studies. He appreciated China role in developing Pakistan’s higher education system. The HEC Chairman remarked,’ we want to strengthen this relationship further, particularly in the context of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Since different special economic zones are planned to be established in Pakistan under CPEC, we would like to learn from SZU experience as how it became instrumental for Shenzhen Special Economic Zone’.

Dr. Tariq Banuri told the Chinese delegation about HEC’s transnational education program which aims at inviting foreign universities to establish their sub-campuses in Pakistan and Pakistani universities are encouraged to establish their campuses in China and other countries of the world. He said HEC is taking aggressive measures to establish a high standard research in Pakistani institutes. It is providing finance and facilities to Pakistani higher education institutes for maintaining high quality and capacity building of research programs especially for PhD courses.
The SZU President reciprocated Dr. Banuri’s appreciation and thanked HEC for inviting him and his delegation in Pakistan for collaborations with Pakistani Universities. He said, ‘Including other things, we have also focused on internationalization of our university including increased collaborations with universities worldwide and attracting more students from other countries to study at SZU. Likewise, we also expect collaborations with universities in Pakistan and more students in our various disciplines so they have a first-hand experience of China’s development’.
‘Presently, there are 76 Pakistani scholars studying in our university. We expect that our recent visit would also get us young and talented pool of Pakistani scholars’, the SZU President said. Adviser Human Resource Development HEC, Wasim Hashmi gave a presentation and elaborated the progress HEC has made over the years in development of Pakistan’s higher education system. He explained how investment in HRD and R&D has helped in raising education standards of Pakistan’s Universities.

The HR advisor of HEC said that our main focus of inviting SZU is to promote collaborations and start student and faculty exchange program and research collaborations and also possibility of establishing SZU campus in Pakistan was under discussions agenda of HEC. The President of SZU said although SZU was established 40 years ago but it has developed rapidly and has gained high place in world university rankings. SZU is a fastest rising university of China and abroad.

The focus of HEC is to enhance and develop Pakistan’s research education through collaborations and partnerships with foreign universities like SZU and gain knowledge from their expertise and experience, the HEC chairman said.
