Islamabad, Pakistan can benefit from the growing Brazilian economy and development by starting mutual trade and commercial, technological, cultural, academic and social development projects with Brazil, said Ambassador of Brazil to Pakistan Alfredo Leoni.

He expressed these views during his visit to National University of Modern Languages (NUML), where he met Rector Major General (r) Masood Hasan, Director General Brigadier Azam Jamal and other officials of the university on Tuesday.

He said, Pakistan and Brazil have cooperation and collaboration in a number of areas and more improvement can be take place in this regard. Brazil is a major contributor to the progress of fellow developing nations in Latin America, Africa and Asia and it is realised that a little more interaction and collaboration between Pakistan and Brazil can benefit the people of both countries economically, politically and diplomatically.

Alfredo Leoni said Brazil is not much known in this part of the world. Therefore educational cooperation, including the granting of scholarships and settlements in admired Brazilian universities for students and scholars of Pakistan, and cultural exchanges can bring both countries closer and make them known to each other. In this backdrop, establishment of a Portuguese language department will be of a great help for not only enhancing bilateral relations but also to all those people who want to go to Brazil or come to Pakistan for their studies, visits or jobs, he said.

NUML Rector Major General (r) Masood Hasan, on the occasion, said, It is a honored opportunity that the Brazilian government and embassy have shown their interest in developing collaboration with the NUML and want to invest towards the cause of better education in Pakistan. He said that the NUML would work out the modalities for the establishment of said department and this support would take the bilateral relations to new heights. He also briefed the ambassador on the university, its regional campuses and courses.

NUML Director General Brigadier Azam Jamal told the Brazilian ambassador that any project or enterprise that enjoys patronage and support of the embassy and its government attains a great success and here we expect the same progress.
