‘Best University Teacher’ award given to 40 lecturers

In acknowledgment of their exceptional performance, almost 40 lecturers from the universities crosswise Pakistan were presented along with the Best University Teacher Award for the year 2014 in an elegant ceremony that was organized by Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan.

The Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan was the chief guest of the ceremony. Every winner was granted along with the certificate as well as along with the cash prize of almost Rs100, 000. The chairman of higher education commission Professor Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed was also present on the ceremony.

While conversing on the event, the governor of KPK Sardar Mehtab Ahmad high lightened the importance of higher education and research for the socio-economic growth of the state.

He said that the “nations, which develop a futuristic approach towards the development as well as invest in quality higher education is the ones who progress”.

He perceived that a massive investment was made on higher education sector during the last decade, especially on the establishment as well as the expansion of universities, human resource development, increasing access to the higher education, faculty development, etc adding that there is a prerequisite for the enhancement in quality of education and in research as well.

Sardar Mehtab said that though HEC and the government are fulfilling their responsibility to expand as well as to strengthen the universities, yet there is lack of the experienced faculty. Rising to the general social and national uplift, the Governor mourned that the credibility crisis has suffered from a great loss to the country. He emphasized upon the excessive social research, by claiming that the universities conduct social researches and the governments execute them after assessing their effectiveness in order to attain the national goals.

The chairman praised the teachers who won these awards as well as advised them to pay the attention to community service, because he said a good teacher is the one who contributes to social development. He also accentuated upon them to provide the youth a hope for the bright future. He said that the Commission has played an amazing role in the development of higher education sector. He highlighted various Higher Education Commission initiatives for the enhancement of quality of education as well as the social integration, along with the special attention on the enhanced access, related research and gender equity.
