LAHORE, The government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has requested the Punjab administration to affiliate its first public-sector medical college being established in Muzaffarabad with the University of Health Sciences, Lahore.
AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider has written a letter to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in this regard.
The letter says: “The UHS is reputed for its discipline, fairness, transparency and upholding of merit due to which its degrees are recognised all over the world. Therefore, we desire to affiliate this medical college with it.”
UHS Vice-Chancellor Prof MH Mubashar briefed a delegation of the AJK officials, headed by Health Minister Dr Najeeb Naqi, on the need for a medical college in the AJK territory and its impact on people of the state.
The officials said the AJK government had been giving priority to this project and had initially allocated a newly-constructed seismic-proof building for the college. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Hospital, Muzaffarabad, with 200 beds and Abbas Institute of Medical Sciences with 300 beds would be affiliated with the college for teaching purposes.
The delegation also requested the UHS vice-chancellor to allocate specials seats in seven disciplines of basic sciences for postgraduates trainees of the AJK so that the medical college could become self-sufficient in basic sciences faculty.
