AIOU upgrades free education plan for physically disable students

Islamabad:  Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has developed its free education plan for the special students along with the better facilities comprising of delivery of study material through a computerized accessibility centre.

Vice Chancellor of university Dr Shahid Siddiqui said, over the years, AIOU maintained its strategy of offering education to the physically disabled and visually weakened students free of cost from matric to PhD level.

The number of registered aspirants in these categorically enormously increased in the recent year. The university is offering free of cost education to all types of special needy students.

In the recent admissions of various programs, large numbers of special students mostly the visually impaired have shown their interest in MPhil and PhD programs. Only the Faculty of Education received over 20 admission applications for these programmes. Such students are provided writers in exams.

An Accessibility Centre has also been established at the Central Library of university. It is the first-ever distance learning facility being provided to this special category of individuals by any government sector educational institute free of cost.

VC of university moreover said, “This facility is not restricted to only students of AIOU but it is for all those who are interested to get themselves educated through Distance learning. The needy aspirants will be able to get access on digital resources of HEC, online Books, research articles, journals, and thesis as well as course material of their programs without any additional charges”.

Computerized accessibility centre is armed along with computers, scanners, printers, various software’s with which needy students particularly visually impaired or blind could access e-content via internet.

“The varsity will also arrange orientation and introductory gatherings that will assist them in their professional development and academic up-gradation” he added.
