AIOU, OIC to promote Islamic Culture, Arabic Language

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Islamabad as well as the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) will strengthen their on-going two-way partnership to promote Arabic language and Islamic culture.

This statement was made by the senior officer of OIC Secretariat Abdula Manafi Matualo during his visit to the main campus of Allama Iqbal Open University on Thursday. On his arrival he was given the detailed briefing on the OIC-funded project- Regional Institute for complimentary education (RICE) that is being executed through the Arabic Department of the AIOU.

This project was started in association along with the Allama Iqbal Open University and OIC in 1984 in light of the decision taken by the Foreign Ministers’ Conference of OIC in 1981.

Abdula Manafi guaranteed that the visiting deputation that included their professional officer Galib Huseynov will present a report to the Secretary General of OIC recommending the ways as well as the means to more strengthen this project to attain the stipulated goals.

While addressing the audiences of the event, Vice Chancellor of Allama Iqbal Open University Dr. Shahid Siddiqui emphasized the requirement of pooling the available resources in the Muslim countries for attaining the knowledge as well as expertise in order to meet the socio-economic challenges of the modern world.

During his address he moreover said that AIOU will strengthen its partnership along with the Muslim states especially in the field of research for attaining the goals set by the OIC. The University has just improved its academic, intellectual as well as the research-oriented activities for making and constructing knowledge.

The university is also paying attention on disseminating of the research findings between the related quarters as well as the end users to take its due advantage and to serve the society. The delegation was notified that the Arabic department of the AIOU has unveiled the different programs for promoting Arabic language and Islamic culture in the non-Arabic countries.

The University has also decided to introduce the Associate degree for ‘Imam and Khateeb’ as well as in the disciplines of Islamic Banking and Islamic education. Dead of department of Arabic and Islamic Studies Dr. Ali Asghar Chishti acknowledged the delegation for its support in overwhelming the specific difficulties in completing the task assigned to the department for the promotion of Islamic teaching.
