AIOU offers fee concession to needy and deserving students

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), Islamabad has distributed special funds to help the poor aspirants in the form of fee concession as well as scholarships.

Vice Chancellor of Allama Iqbal Open University Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddique said that, “We allocate more than Rs100 million in our yearly budget for the support of needy aspirants, allowing them to carry on their further education. This financial aid is available from secondary level to PhD level.

As per the press release that was released on Sunday, this is in series along with the policy of government to reassure the deserving and the brilliant aspirants to continue their further studies in future.

Newly, the university has unveiled the 9 schemes under which the financial aid is protracted on regular basis. These schemes are executed through the 44 regional offices of AIOU, working at different parts of the state also involving Azad Kashmir and Northern regions of Pakistan

Dr Siddiqui moreover said that, special criteria have been set up to certify the transparency as well as impartiality in the execution of these schemes. There is a special scheme that is names as ‘Earn to learn’, which offers the internship or part-time job to the admirable aspirants to assist in meeting their educational expenses themselves. The aspirants can look for the financial aid for three semesters.

These scholarships are given to the aspirants who attain at least 75 marks in their specific discipline. Such financial aid is also offered to the aspirants, greeting from distant locations where literacy rate is less than 50%.

A worth of Rs 7.75 million has been owed in the yearly budget for offering the scholarships to the female candidates, particularly those living in backward zones.

Allama Iqbal Open University also offers the free education to criminals, allowing them to become useful resident of the society after relieved from custody. The exams are set up for such persons inside the premises of jail.
