Islamabad: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) on Sunday inaugurated its regional campus in Rahim Yar Khan (RYK), welcoming the aspirants from South Punjab.

The campus building costing Rs 138 million provides comprehensive faculties to the local students that comprises of two labs, library, conference halls, 10 class rooms, video conferencing space as well as a mosque.

The Vice Chancellor of university, Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui during his address at the opening ceremony, showed gratitude towards the local philanthropist Chaudhry Munir Ahmed for his handsome donation for the campus, helping for the education purpose.

State Minister for Education Balighur Rehman, who inaugurated the new building, hoped that the varsity will keep up its impressive role in reaching the remote zones of the country for improving the literacy rate and for offering education at higher education level.

He applauded the role of the university in meeting the educational requirements of South Punjab as well.

Vice chancellor Dr Siddiqui also mentioned about different initiatives to strength students’ support system and improving its infrastructure network and said that more than 0.7 million aspirants were registered in 44 regional centres nationally (Spring- 2016 admissions).

He said AIOU has attained a singular distinction, having largest academic and infrastructure network in the country, along with 44-campuses and thousands of tutorial centres.
