The battle for academic credential validation has intensified as a group of 73 graduates from various universities in the United States have officially approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC). The petitioners are seeking legal intervention to compel the relevant educational authorities, including the Higher Education Commission (HEC), to issue formal recognition and equivalence certificates for their foreign qualifications. Many of these professionals returned to Pakistan after completing rigorous degree programs abroad, only to face significant administrative hurdles, delays, and outright refusals when attempting to validate their credentials for local employment and further academic pursuits.

According to the petition filed through their legal counsel, the affected alumni argue that their institutions are fully accredited in the United States and meet all international standards of higher education. Despite this, they claim that bureaucratic bottlenecks and inconsistent evaluation policies have left them in professional limbo. Without official degree equivalence, these graduates are unable to secure government positions, register with professional regulatory bodies, or advance their careers in the domestic private sector. The petitioners have urged the high court to declare the withholding of their degree recognitions as unlawful and to direct the regulatory authorities to process their cases expeditiously.
