Yesterday, the Institute of Biochemistry & Biotechnology and Quality Operation Lab & University Diagnostics Lab of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Lahore has arranged a three days National workshop on “Molecular Diagnostics” in association with the Penn State and United States Department of Agriculture Research Service (USDA). Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha lead the inaugural session of the workshop whereas large number of well-known personalities including Prof Dr Khushi Muhammad, Prof. Dr. Masood Rabbani, Prof. Dr. Sarwar Khan, Prof. Dr. Kamran Ashraf, Dr. Waseem Shahzad were present in the event, Moreover, a lot of a contributors came from all over the Pakistan and many UVAS faculty members were also present.

During his address on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Talat Naseer Pasha really appreciated the efforts of University Diagnostics Lab, Quality Operation Lab as well as the faculty of Institute of Biochemistry & Biotechnology faculty staff for the prearranging of workshop on a very requiring aspect of molecular diagnostics which is deliberated as a useful and important event. He moreover added that those training workshop’ was compulsory for sharing of knowledge, progress as well as for the development of skills. He said that with the help of this workshop we will be able to review the basic concept of molecular diagnosis of human and animal diseases and will also sponsor the usage of molecular diagnostic techniques in life sciences research. 

First Of all, Prof. Dr. Masood Rabbani explained about the main aim and objectives of the workshop. He said that basically this event is a capability development event for the development of scientific abilities of the contributors in mostly used and important techniques in molecular diagnostics. Furthermore, he added that molecular diagnostics techniques are just not relevant to the modern medical practice though they are also related to genetically modified organisms, forensics as well as quality assessment of laboratory animals, pharmacogenomics and other fields of study. This training workshop comprises of the most commonly used molecular diagnostic techniques that are known as ELISA, DNA extraction, end-point and Real-Time PCR as well as Capillary Electrophoresis. He also said that in that discussion we will also discussed on the various features that are associated with the molecular diagnostic techniques which are now utilizing in modern clinical practices.
