Lahore: Total 2400 aspirants were awarded degrees at the 23rd convocation of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET). Almost 14 PhD, 125 MPhil, 618 MS/MSc/MBA Executive whereas 1,683 bachelor students received their graduate certificates at the main auditorium of university on Tuesday.

The students of the university’s main campus, Kala Shah Kaku Campus, Faisalabad Campus, Rachna College of Engineering and Technology Gujranwala and Narowal Campus received 2071, 134, 78, 114, and 45 degrees respectively.

Almost 61 gold medals were awarded among 43 students. The highest number of gold medals went to Tayyaba Zafarullah who was awarded with four gold medals.

Likewise, 5 students were awarded three gold medals each and another 5 students were honoured along with two gold medals each.

While addressing the convocation, the governor of Punjab Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana said that the engineering zone has great potential to optimize the future of the country and education of engineering can assist in attaining the targets of development.

He said the government had started many projects to involve the youth in nation-building, adding that the country was facing a lot of challenges as well as issues that can just be resolved through collective wisdom.

While congratulating the graduates, he appreciated the role of University of Engineering and Technology in producing well known professionals in the field of engineering.

He moreover advised the graduates to learn more techniques to contribute to the China-Pak Economic Corridor adding that there was an extreme need to educate as well as to empower women.

The vice chancellor of University of engineering and Technology Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid said steps were being taken to boost the quality of education to contribute to the society fruitfully. He highlighted the production of the university with important figures in capacity-building, new pedagogical techniques, laboratory as well as research centres up gradation of courses.

In the convocation held on Tuesday a honourary degree of doctorate was also presented to former Vice Chancellor of UET Lt Gen (R) Muhammad Akram Khan to acknowledge his services and contribution towards the university.

At the end, Dr Fazal presented a sovounir to Governor Rafique. MNA Pervaiz Malik, MPA Chaudhry Akhtar Ali, members of syndicate, deans of the university and the heads of academic and the management of offices also attended the event.
