Overview

The MGIS program provides a comprehensive GIS degree that balances theoretical, technical, applied and societal dimensions of GIS. It provides an advanced education in the principles and practice of GIS. Geographical Information Systems (GIS) has grown rapidly to become a major component of information technology as a whole. It began by drawing together well-developed methods of database management and the fledgling technology of digital mapping, but has progressed rapidly to develop distinctive methods of data analysis, algorithms and software tools. Students gains a high level of competency in the principles of GI Science and the use of geotechnology; they will be able to routinely use professional software for data acquisition, handling, exploration and mapping also prepares his/herself for employment, career advancement, further research and lifelong learning by developing intellectual, problem solving, technical and other key professional and academic skills.

Admission Requirements

Requirements for Masters in Geographic Information Systems (GIS):

  • Candidate should have 14 years of education.
  • Candidates should have graduate degree from recognized college or university. A background in a social science will be a plus point but not essential feature.
  • Candidates who are more than 26 years old shall not be entitled for admissions unless relaxation is granted by the Vice Chancellor for special reasons on the recommendations of the Chairman.
  • Foreign students must route their applications through the Ministry of Education, Government of Pakistan.
  • Admission will be made on merit, subject to the regional quota.
