The Higher Education Commission (HEC) is of imperative importance to the progress of higher education in Pakistan. It is the UGC (University Grant Commission) under the UGC act 1974 which is responsible for all sorts of issues regarding education in Pakistan. Its name was later changed. HEC is liable for higher education under the rule of thumb of the federal government. The essential reason of introducing this institute is to uplift the education sector and bring the education to international standards and to enhance the learning methodologies. It can be said that HEC also deals with the quality control of universities.
Universities with a charter from a province or state have a right to operate within that province or state. As soon as they go outside the territories of the province or state, they are viewed as unlawful and called “not recognized by HEC”. There are various HEC Degree Awarding Institutes in Pakistan in both public and private sectors. Some of these are Punjab University, Iqra University, Quaid-e-azam University, Aga khan and many more scattered over different cities.
A complete list of all HEC Recongnised Universities, awarded with this charter, has been given below for student assistance. Here students can find out if the university of their choice or any other university is recognized by HEC or not.
