General Overview & Purpose

  • Administering Body: Education Testing Council (ETC).

  • Purpose: A standardized aptitude test for students applying for:

    • HEC Scholarships for Ph.D. programmes.

    • Admission to MS, M.Phil, and Ph.D. programmes in Pakistani Universities.

  • Result Validity: Valid for multiple scholarship programs including Commonwealth, Chinese Government, Hungarian, and other HEC scholarships.


2. Test Categories & Subject Breakdown (Format)

The test is divided into five (5) categories. The selection depends on the student's academic stream and the university's admission requirements. The total number of questions for all categories is 100.

3. Registration & Application Process (Detailed Format)

  • Registration Platform: Online via http://etc.hec.gov.pk.

  • Registration Deadline: Friday, October 02, 2026 (24:00 hours).

  • Application Status: The application must be SUBMITTED. Applications left in "SAVE" or "INCOMPLETE" mode will not be considered.

  • Data Verification:

    • Candidates must ensure personal details (Name, CNIC, Cell Number) match exactly.

    • Using a parent/sibling/relative's CNIC is strictly prohibited and results in disqualification.

  • Fee Payment:

    • Payable via 1Link/1Bill Invoice services using the generated consumer number.

    • Applicants must click "Verify Online Payment" on the ETC Dashboard after depositing the fee.

    • The fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.


4. Test Schedule & Logistics

  • Test Date: Sunday, October 25, 2026.

  • Frequency: Conducted quarterly (check the Test Calendar 2026 on the ETC website).

  • Roll Number Slip:

    • Downloadable from http://etc.hec.gov.pk and sent via email one week before the test date.

    • SMS notifications are also sent (except to numbers that have been ported/switched networks; those candidates must rely on email).

    • Requirement: Printout of the slip and Original CNIC/Passport are mandatory for entry to the test center.

  • Test Centers:

    • Applicants select a center from the list provided.

    • Note: ETC reserves the right to change the center if fewer than 250 applicants register for a specific location.

  • Prohibited Items: Mobile phones, calculators, recording devices, or any electronic communication/imaging devices are strictly NOT ALLOWED.


5. Prohibited Actions & Penalties

  • Taking/Uploading/Sharing images of the question book is strictly prohibited and is an offense liable to punishment as per ETC policy.
