Program Introduction

The One-Year Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) is a career-oriented academic program designed for graduates from diverse academic backgrounds. The program aims to develop a strong theoretical foundation and advanced practical skills in GIS, Remote Sensing, satellite image analysis, and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technologies.

The curriculum places strong emphasis on hands-on practical training, enabling students to gain real-world experience in:

• Satellite image downloading and preprocessing

• Digital image processing and analysis

• Crop and soil mapping

• Flood and disaster mapping

• Large-scale and thematic mapping

• Spatial data management and analysis using modern GIS software and satellite datasets

These competencies are highly relevant across a wide range of disciplines, including:

• Agriculture and agribusiness

• Wetlands, soils, forestry, and ecology

• Geosciences and environmental sciences

• Water resources, marine, and atmospheric sciences

• Urban and regional planning

• Disaster risk management

• Transportation and infrastructure planning

• Public health and social science research

Through structured coursework, extensive practical exercises, and an independent final project, the program equips students with the skills required for real-world problem-solving and prepares them for professional careers in both technical and interdisciplinary fields.
