Education in UK - Guidelines

UK education is recognized and respected through out the world for the quality and variety of its further and higher education programmes. UK universities and colleges give a solid foundation for building the future and provide opportunities to flourish the careers. Most UK degrees can take three years and Master degree takes one year, compared to four and two years in other countries. This means UK education can save you on time and living costs, and you can start working and earning money sooner. 

There are more than 3000 educational institutions that welcome international students in the UK. The sheer variety of specialism enables you to find a course of your choice. UK is the home of international education, and got a long history of welcoming international students. At the moment there are almost 800,000 students from 180 countries.

When you come to the UK, you get four countries in one: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Each has its own distinctive history and culture. As they are in easy reach of one another, they are easy to explore. It is worth noting that education system in UK have evolved over hundreds of years and are subject to rigorous quality standards. You should note that your main costs will be tuition fees and living expenses. Some rough examples will be.

Arts �6,000 to �7,500 
Sciences �6,500 to �39,500 
Clinical �9,500 to �18,000

Below is an estimate of typical living expenses in UK 

Accommodation: Single room outside London is �40.00 per week; Inside London is �70.00 per week. 
Bills: Average �40.00 per week 
Food/Household shopping: Average �35.00 per week
Laundry: Average �8.00 per week 

There are many scholarships that British Government and Universities are offering to international students. These scholarships are a sign of the UK strong commitment to the wellbeing of international students. To find out whether you might be eligible for a grant or scholarship, start by asking your own ministry of education. You may also consult your local British council office which will have information about UK award schemes. 

Your nearest British council can provide you fill information about the university you are interested in. You can also check details on internet or contact any student consultant near you. You need to prepare fully before choosing a course to apply in British University as the Visa officer can ask you questions about the course. 

Before you accept a place in the University/ college make sure the course tutor answers all of your questions. You might have to buy some books before traveling to UK as they could he cheap in your country. When you get an unconditional offer letter from a UK educational institution, you will be called for interview. There are various documents you have to produce to the visa officer. 

� A valid passport 
� Letter of acceptance from UK educational institution
� Proof of enough funds to support you during your stay in UK 
� Your educational certificates from GCSE onwards 
� Bank statement with supporting letter from your sponsor 
� Proof of accommodation in UK 

One you are in UK, you have to undertake few steps as soon as possible 

� Arranging an appointment with a GP (General Practitioner). If you are a full time student in UK the basic healthcare is free. 

� Opening up Bank account ( your college/University will provide you a letter to open up bank account) 

� Applying for National Insurance Number ( you are not allowed to work in UK without a national insurance number)
