Pakistan is an Islamic country and Islam has given very high place to women in society. Islam gave them honorable status and freedom of expression. Now they can take part in every sphere of life. Modern women challenge the superiority and domination of men in all spheres of life. In sum during second quarter of this century women have changed considerably. Now they know their rights and also know how to fight for their rights.
8th march, “The Women day” is celebrated to salute all upcoming, successful ladies and to encourage all the low motivated women to do something meaningful in their lives.
In past women were considered inferior to men, they were deprived of taking part in social life. Their spheres of activities were limited to domestic work. But a woman of today is in revolt. In some respects they have surpassed men. Practically there is no field where women are not working with men.
In spite of all these facts one of social upheavals of present era is emancipation of women from bondage of old age prejudice which restrict the sphere of women’s activity. Educated women behaves as a more assertive and independent personality than her counterpart in olden times. The formidable challenge women offer to men in nearly all categories of employment is an indication of increasingly important part women play in society.
The question is how a girl does. Just leaving college with idea of embarking on a professional career, decide which is most suitable job for her? In most cases girls grow up with some preconceived idea about the career they wish to choose. Such opinion is formed in different ways. There are instances that parents insisted their daughter to become doctor just because it is their family tradition. In some cases disillusionment comes about through fanciful thinking. By seeing films and reading magazines girls form a specific image of themselves in a particular profession. Some others choose career in which they can earn attractive salary.
In choosing a career a girl should take into account not only taken into consideration only any one factor but should consider her ability, her aptitude, her temperament, conditions of service and prospects in terms of salary. The opportunities for careers are many for modern girls. With the rapid growth of industrialization these opportunities are bound to multiply. The proof of this, that specifically in Pakistan we can see girls to do a job of traffic police. Our nine young ladies recently joined air force. In adopting right profession vocational career departments can help girls and women to choose right profession according to their caliber.
But besides all these, women living in villages and small towns still face problems in adopting any kind of career. Even in modern era they are a picture of sympathy. They are advised to do household tasks and getting married in early age is their ultimate destination.
All this fuss should be changed now. Government should establish vocational training institutes in that, underdeveloped areas to arise awareness in women and girls to get out of homes and make their lives useful. Schools and colleges for girls should be opened to educate girls because 50% of Pakistan’s population consists of women and if they stated working along with men than surely our country will prosper.
But there is still much more to do.....
