IT Exhibition is a way to aware people about what is in and what is out from market. In this era only that person can survive who knows the latest information. Today IT market is growing up so fast that everyone has to run according to its pace. For this purpose IT institutes can play a vital role by making their students realize the importance of IT Exhibitions.

  1. Importance of Institute for Students
Everybody knows that institutes are the mind builders of the students. What does a student do, it is mostly dependent on the environment of the institute that is provided to him. His thinking and mind starts working according to the picture shown to him by his institute.
  2. Do Institutes Motivate Their Students?
Most of the time student considers his teacher (s) as role models. He has firm believe in them so he accepts whatever they say and tries to follow it. groups and assign each group the task of attending the exhibition and making report of it. So the next day whole class will share their good or bad experiences regarding their visit. These are some ways through which teacher can put their students in a right direction.
  3. Students' Perspective Regarding IT Exhibitions
A big range of students does not even know that what is actually the IT Exhibition? So they do not go there.

Ratio of such unaware students’   ratio is 80 % of all students of Pakistan. Out of these remaining (20%), 16% are there for paper and company’s Ads collection and most importantly for the filling of Lucky Draw Coupons. Only 3% are those who talk with different companies to ask about the prices, functionality and advance features of the products. And the campaign and the exhibition was a big success. Over 7000 students and professionals participated in the Exhibition. Over 4800 students and professionals were trained. Over 5000 CDs of operating system Linux-UBUNTU were distributed.
  1. SOFTC  2005
SOFTEC is a short for SOFTware Exhibition and Competition. This is student body of FAST-NU that was founded in 1995.

SOFTC 2005

They arrange software exhibition and competition every year. This year they invited people from whole Asia to participate in 10th All Pakistan Software Competition and Dynamic Programming Competition. This event always held in the premises of FAST-NU. People from all over the Pakistan participate in the event and exhibit their softwares. This year this was held at 12-13 March 2005. Besides these competitions, there were some others those also being held like Ideas Xtreme, Gaming Competition, TechNext, and Kids Corner. Moreover there were Software House Enclosures, So as for as IT Exhibition is concerned the teachers should motivate their students to go there to attend such kind of activities. But unfortunately most of the institutes do not even bother to persuade the students for such good events.
  1. How Can Students Be Motivated
Hmmm, There can be many ways to motivate the students:
  1. By arranging the trip. For example, KRL exhibition which is held in Islamabad every year. Now if your institution is situated in Lahore then you can arrange a trip from Lahore to Islamabad. During the journey, stay for 1 or 2 hour(s) at some entertaining place like Kalar Kahar. Now after reaching at Islamabad attend the IT exhibition and guide your students what should they do to seek knowledge there from exhibition?
  2. The second way for motivation could be that teacher should talk about IT exhibitions in the class and its benefits. He can tell his regarding exhibitions so that the interest of students can be built.
  3. Third way is like divide the class into only 1% are those who take headache to buy something e.g. Flash Drive etc.
  1. Does Any Institute/University Organize in IT Exhibitions?
Yes, there are some universities those organize IT exhibitions:
    PUCIT, Punjab University.
    FAST-NU.
    University of Central Punjab.
More important thing is that student body of university organizes such big event. So by arranging the IT exhibitions these universities are actually inculcating the managerial skills in the students.
  1. PFOSSAC' 2005
FOSSAC stands for National Free and Open Source Software Awareness Campaign. This was held at PUCIT, Punjab University at 16-19 August 2005. Student body of PUCIT organized this mega event. The main purpose of this 4-day campaign of FOSSAC ’2005 was to spread the awareness about Open Source and Free softwares and to train students of both public and private institutions about Linux-UBUNTU.

Role of IT Institutes in IT Exhibitions

In Main Hall, there was Exhibition running where Open Source softwares were being exhibited like ERP Systems, Softwares made in PHP, Sun Solaris 10, and much more. All softwares were Open Source. there were Software House Enclosures, ISP Enclosures and Book Fair all part of the exhibition.
  1. Punjab Tech'03
Punjab Tech is the student body of University of Central Punjab (Punjab Group of Colleges). They organized a Nation wide Software Competition and Exhibition in December 2003. This was a 3-day event held at Aiwan-e-Iqbal. Students from various cities of Pakistan came to participate in this event and they were given a free accommodation in a renowned hotel. Besides Software Competition there were also other events like On Spot-Programming, Quiz Competition etc. A large number of companies participated in the Exhibition for the promotion of their products.

Conclusion
Even though some universities are trying to train and motivate students by arranging campaigns and exhibitions to broaden students’ minds and intellectual level but the percentage of such universities is too low that it is not enough to take Pakistan to its boom in IT field.
