Role of the MCAT
The MCAT, in combination with college grade (overall and science
GPA), types and quality of courses, letters of recommendations,
extracurricular activities, major undergraduate institutions
attended, the interview, SAT, etc., is a screening device. The
test is an objective measure and high scores will help an individual
with average grades. Average or slightly lower MCAT scores probably
do not significantly affect a superior college record. The literature
points to a positive correlation between high MCAT scores (especially
science subtests) and future success in the basic medical science
(preclinical phase) and National Board of Medical Examinations
Part I examinations scores. |
