Karachi: The convocation of Ziauddin University organized on Wednesday was the first in its 13 graduation ceremonials that was not marked by the presence of its vice chancellor Dr Asim Hussain.

However, Dr Asim, who is currently in the custody of law enforcement agencies on terrorism and corruption charges, accomplished to mark his presence among the graduating aspirants through a speech that was delivered by her daughter, Dr Nida Hussain.

Dr Nida Hussain who was also associate dean of faculty affairs, read his father’s speech in which she apologized for his absence at the convocation, express gratitude towards his family for staying with him in “difficult times” and also congratulated the students on their success.

“The basic principle of any components in any country is fair justice, freedom of thought as well as speech as accepted by law, respect of honor and also the dignity of man. If these basic principles and rights are compressed on then we see the development of a civil society without moral values like we see developing today,” Dr Nida said, quoting her father.

In the ceremony, the university awarded total 307 degrees along with the eight gold medals to the graduating students at the ceremony that was organized at Karachi Expo Centre.
