Lahore: The students from Pakistan continue to bring achievements for the country. In recent Science Olympiads organized in different destinations all over the world, including Vietnam, Georgia, Hong Kong and Switzerland, young Pakistanis have brought home four Bronze medals as well as one honorable mention.

A team of students was picked under the STEM Careers Programme which has been started by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) for the youngsters interested in science and technology.

The aspirants were selected as well as trained by instructors from different Pakistani institutes, comprising of National Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE), Faisalabad; HEJ Research Institute, Karachi; COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Lahore; PIEAS, Islamabad as well as the members of the STEM Careers Programme.

Afterwards, the top aspirants were then selected to take part in different International programs, including the 27th International Biology Olympiad, the 48th International Chemistry Olympiad, the 57th International Mathematics Olympiad and also the 47th International Physics Olympiad.

The 27th International Biology Olympiad (IBO) was organized in Hanoi, Vietnam from 17th July 2016 to 24th July 2016. Out of total four candidates who took part here, 3 of them secured top honors. Muhammad Alamgir Khan from Cadet College Hassan Abdal, Bakhtawar Ahmad from Hamza Army Public School and College, Rawalpindi, and Saffa Fatima from Lahore Grammar School won Bronze Medals in the competition.

6 aspirants also participated at the 57th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) organized in Hong Kong however the team was not succeeded in winning a prize.

The 47th International Physics Olympiad was arranged in Zurich, Switzerland from 10th July 2016 to 17th July 2016 where Maimoon Siddiqui from Karachi Grammar School grasped an honorable mention.

The 48th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) was organized in Georgia from 23rd July to 1st august 2016. Here, Muhammad Ismail from FFC Grammar School, Mirpur Mathelo, Sindh won the bronze medal.
