Lahore, Two day workshop on Disaster Risk Management started here at Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) on Monday Department of Environmental Sciences LCWU in Collaboration and Support of National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) arranged this function at Student Service Centre LCWU. Vice Chancellor Dr. Sabiha Mansoor inaugurated the workshop and appreciated the organizing institutions for such a useful and informative workshop. The role of youth is very important in earthquake, flood and other crises.
The country who have trained its mass to fight against such crises face less cusualaties and loss. She added. Dr. M. Atiq ur Rahman, Associate Professor, Environmental Science Dept. LCWU in his paper descriped the disciplines and concept and Disaster Management Cycle.
He said that Japan is wonderful example in terms of Disaster Risk Management where every citizen has to get training to face such situation. Mr. Waqas Hanif National Project Manager (NPM), One UN DRM Program focused on Linking Disaster with Development and its Need for Mainstreaming DRR into Development Process. Mubushar Hussain Director NIDM/ DRR Mainstreaming Expert, Mr. Muhammad Ahmad Rajwana Director Operations PDMA, Punjab also presented their papers. Workshop will continue today and a special demonstration from Rescue 1122 will be exercised for the students.
