The government of United States of America has launched the second phase of its Merit as well as Need Based Scholarship Program (MNBSP) which will give advantage to 3000 brilliant candidates who are in need of financial support to for their further studies.

The new stage of this United States Agency for International Development (USAID) financed grants program was proclaimed by Gregory Gottlieb, Mission Director, USAID Pakistan at an event which was also attended by Ahsan Iqbal, the Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Modifications.

The Executive Director of Higher Education Commission, Professor Mukhtar Ahmad as well as Vice Chancellors of partner universities of USAID was also present in that event.

Approximately 1,807 scholarships were granted in segment 1 of the program and more than 1,350 of these students have already got the undergraduate and graduate degrees as well.

The scholarship program also served as a facilitator for other contributors to grant the scholarships at participating organizations, resulting in more than repetition the number of registered students since 2004.

“The U.S. government via USAID has decided to increase the Merit and Needs Based Scholarship Program via HEC by offering extra $23.1 million to assist 3,000 more brilliant Pakistani Students.

Gregory Gottlieb, the Mission Director has said that “Eighteen more degrees have been included and new fields of study will enable the Pakistani students to chase the degrees in the most required after fields of studies to meet the requirements of the job market”.

While conversing, he moreover said that “half of these scholarships have been placed away for women, and to help confirm that we accomplish this goal, four Women universities have been added to the prolonged this program”.
