Peshawar: The University of Peshawar (UoP) has decided to extend its distance learning programme to the prisoners crosswise KPK.

According to the issued press release by University of Peshawar, the academic council of the varsity met on Thursday at the Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qayyum Hall of the campus.

Vice-Chancellor of university Professor Mohammad Rasul Jan preside over the meeting, whereas the deans of the faculties, heads of the teaching as well as administrative departments, and designated members of the affiliated colleges attended the meeting.

In the meeting, the council decided to establish a centre in the Central Jail Peshawar for the distance education of prisoners.

Upon the request of inspector general of prisons, it has been decided to deliver MA and MSc examination facility to the eligible prisoners along with complete fee concession.

The council also recommended the apportionment of special seats for the aspirants of the republic of Maldives as well as the grant of 50 % fee concession to the students of Kohistan to encourage registrations in the university from the underprivileged district.

Moroever, according to another press release issued by university, the council act in accordance with directions of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) also decided to phase out the one-year BEd programme from the present year and continue with the four-year BEd degree programme to enhance the quality of teaching at primary and secondary level.
