Peshawar, University of Peshawar is going to get Rs 110 million grant from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for fiscal year 2012-13.

According to the notification, Rs100 million grant has been reserved for the requirement of transport of the university and Rs10 million will be allocated to Peshawar University Teachers Association.

Moreover, Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti has also permitted Rs30 million for Langlands School and College, Chitral, as an additional grant.

A nonprofit organization of United States is going to donate Rs22 million to HEC for setting up of Student Advancement Endowment Fund (SAFE) in which students of 22 public sector universities will be supported.

The MoU signing ceremony was organized at head office of HEC Islamabad. An official of the HEC said that though ministry of finance has released Rs3 billion to HEC budget but the financial issues of the commission are still same.

Around Rs48 billion were reserved for HEC for the duration of 2012-13 and from January to March Rs36 billion were scheduled to be released but until now it has got only Rs17 billion and Rs19 are still pending. Additional grant of Rs3 billion was declared but it was also could not be released.

Vice Chancellor of University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar Syed Imtiaz Hussain Gilani said that 50 percent funds has been produced by the public sector universities through their own funds but government is not providing 50 percent of funds.

Vice Chancellor Quaid-i-Azam University Dr Masoom Yasinzai also said that financial issue is the major problem for the universities.

However, Chairperson HEC Dr Javaid R. Laghari said that youth will support through funds provided by the NGO.
