Lahore, Roll number slips have been issued to 400 students of four new medical colleges, Khwaja Safder Medical College Sialkot, DG Khan Medical College, Gujranwala Medical College and Sahiwal Medical College.
On Dec 19, provisional exams will be held for these students by UHS to save academic year. Government will continue its efforts for the recognition of these four new colleges by PMDC. Punjab Medical and Dental Council have inspected three out of four colleges three times but yet no decision has been taken. Interestingly only 10 days are left in 1st Prof Annual exams.
The Clash between government and PMDC started when government started building four medical colleges without following the PMDC rules. Now PMDC has delayed its decision for nothing although the government has fulfilled all the requirements of PMDC.
Recently some private colleges have been recognized by PMDC and seats are also increased to 50 each, but the Council refused to recognize new medical colleges and put the future of about 800 students in danger.
Yet PMDC has not called a meeting to bother about that colleges and 800 students in which 400 students are freshly enrolled. So this decision is still pending.
Reason for delaying the meeting is told by the PMDC Registrar Dr Ahmad Nadeem Akbar, as the Council's Vice President Dr Asim Hussain is in abroad and the meeting will be held after he return.
On Thursday many students from unrecognized colleges arranged their first protest in front of UHS to fulfill their demands and recognize their colleges. The students blocked the road for about half an hour in front of UHS and raised slogans against the delay of PMDC decision.
On that protest UHS administration told the students about the university and government efforts for their purpose. It was also told by the Young Medicos Action Committee that after the 1st Prof Exams a vigorous protest will be arranged if PMDC does not take notice on that.
