Telenor and PTCL Sign Memorandum of Understanding

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has signed an agreement along with the Telenor Pakistan through which Telenor Pakistan will be able to consume PTCL’s back-haul infrastructure till 2020.

This MoU will facilitate Telenor to avail the huge network footprint as well as the infrastructure of PTCL that is spread countrywide for their fast growing 3G subscriber base.

Mr. Omar Khalid (EVP Carrier Services & Wholesale, PTCL) as well as Mr. Khurram Ashfaq (CTO, Telenor Pakistan) signed the MoU in a ceremony that was organized at the Telenor Pakistan headquarters recently.

This MoU signing ceremony was attended by the senior management from both the companies, involving Mr. Sikander Naqi, (Chief Business Development Officer, PTCL), Mr. Saad Warriach (Chief Technical & Information Officer, PTCL) and the side of Tellenor was represented by Mr. Espen Brettas Dahle (Chief Financial Officer of Telenor, Pakistan).

In the post 3G/4G command, the phone operators are predicting a precipitous incline in the data usage patterns of the subscribers, that’s why needing backhaul for their BTS networks through the fiber connectivity. The objective of the backhauling of BTS sites is to certify readiness for the developing data market of Pakistan.

According to the signed MoU, PTCL as well as Telenor Pakistan shall sign a frame agreement, where Telenor shall be using the technical expertise and extensive experience of PTCL for the fiber substructure deployment over the time period of 5 years till 2020.

The senior administration from the two firms stressed on the requirement for the closer cooperative ties to deliver the advanced, cost effective as well as the readily available services for the Pakistani market. This company will go a long way in flagging a bright future for both the stakeholders that are involved.
