Lahore: The two-week extension of summer holidays caused confusion in the mind of parents and teachers on Wednesday, media reported.

A government sector school teacher told media sources that School Education Department (SED) had not informed schools regarding any extension of summer holidays.

He said he had heard reports in this regard from different news sources.

“Security was cited as the cause for the extension,” he added. “Actually, the government is not satisfied along with the security arrangements. The SED had publicized vacancies for guards however apparently not all posts were filled.”

Imran Habib, a parent of two, said his children were studying at government sector schools and he was worried regarding their safety.R

He furthermore said that, “Children are being reported kidnapped every single day. We are also afraid of terrorist attacks. I really don’t want to send my kids to schools in such a condition. Even if the government does not extend summer holidays, I will still not send my children to school for some days.”

Education EDO Tariq Rafiq said that no notification had been issued by SED. He rejected further comment. SED Secretary Abdul Jabbar Shaheen and Minister Rana Mashhood were not available for the comments.

Moreover on Wednesday, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) information secretary Syed Sumsam Bukhari issued a statement reproving the government for extending the summer break.

“This will affect the education of children and cause fear among the aspirants as well as parents. How long will the government use excuses? We demand that the government must take strict against terrorists as well as their facilitators throughout the country.”

The government of Punjab had issued a notification directing all the government as well as private sector schools to close for summer vacations from June 1, 2016 till August 14th, 2016.
