ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Planning, Ahsan Iqbal, inaugurated the Cloud Data Centre at Higher Education Commission (HEC) during a ceremony on Thursday. The main aim of building this centre is to facilitate the universities to become a part of the world-class research environment. Huawei Technologies have donated to build the centre.

The federal minister was accompanied by the HEC Chairman Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Executive Director Dr. Arshad Ali and Ambassador of China in Pakistan Sun Weidong.

Vice Chancellors of several private and public sector universities and other officials were also present at the inauguration ceremony.

In view of the rise of the internet technologies, HEC has established the centre to increase productivity, improve business processes and quicken the change. These centres are the strategic focus of IT efforts to shield, enhance and produce the business.

The data entre has the capacity of 20,000 CPU’s and will save 25% of natural power consumption.

Speaking on this occasion, Minister Ahsan Iqbal said that the data centre will enable our higher educational institutions to become part of international research and development process. He also said that the IT plan by HEC is turning the dream of a technologically advanced Pakistan into reality.

The Chairman HEC, said that in spite of several hardship in the last few years, HEC is now efficiently performing due to the support of government. He also said that later HEC along with Huawei Technology will also train people which will be introduced later by them.
