Islamabad, Relaxation given to Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) students, the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) on Monday announced that the students could appear in ten consecutive supplementary examinations.
Federal Minister for Professional and Technical Training Riaz Hussain Pirzada said that relaxations were introduced to provide opportunity to students belonging to average and low-income segments to continue their education. He said previously the students could avail only two chances but now the rules and procedures have been changed and now they would be able to benefit from more chances.
According to the new policy, the already secured numbers would not be cancelled if anybody wants to improve marks in SSC or HSSC examinations. The students who want to improve their grade will be given numbers subject-wise in 10th and 12th class examinations instead of all subjects. He said that previously students could appear in only mathematics as additional subject within two years, but according to the new policy, students would be eligible to appear in any two additional subjects for five years.
The minister said given the problems faced by the students in the past, the policy would empower Board of Governors (BoG) of the FBISE to approve correction of name of candidate and his or her date of birth. He informed that practical examination would be conducted on the final year of SSC and HSSC instead of separate practical examinations in 9th and 11th classes.
He said the labourers who have been working in different countries abroad would also get benefit from the policy as the respective countries have made the education till matriculation mandatory for them.
“We will also forward a request to the prime minister to bring the schools working under the federal government and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) under the control of Ministry of Professional and Technical Training,” he said. He said Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani would visit the ministry on December 2 and during his visit the matter would be discussed with him.
