Lahore: Bomb alert in 6 public and private sector schools of the city frightened police and parents as well on Wednesday.

The guards of two schools in Gulshan-i-Ravi, Government Girls' High School in G block and Saeeda Butt Private School were alerted of a bomb hoax by a biker, after which the guards informed the management of schools and a call was made to 15 (police) around 10:55am. Both schools were cleared out following the hoax, said schools spokespersons.


Almost six schools in various parts of the city were cleared out and closed for the day following a series of hoax calls regarding bomb threat on Wednesday, police said.


The police authorities also confirmed that Government Boys High School in Chandni Chowk Sanda, Himayat-i-Islam school near Yateem Khana Chowk as well as two other schools in Millat Park and Township areas was also alerted of these threats.

According to school management, fear and panic gripped the students as well as teaching staff after learning about the suspected presence of bombs in school premises.

Worried parents also reached schools to pick their children up after this threat. The schools that received con calls were closed for the day.

Superintendent Police Allama Iqbal Town Shaista Nadeem told media persons, "Almost 5 or 5 calls were received on (15) however no bomb was found. We also sent a Bomb Disposal Squad team to search them. We will identify the callers and also arrest the responsible people as soon as possible."

Parents and the students crosswise the country have been tense following the attack on Bacha Khan University in January, which brought back the sad memories of the awful Army Public School attack in Peshawar.
