Lahore: Lahore High Court on Monday permitted for the admissions three and five years LLB programmes simultaneously for the current academic year in light of rules modified by the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC).

A full bench lead by Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah heard petitions challenging the 5 years LLB programme and a fixed age-limit of 24 years by the University of the Punjab in light of PBC’s suggestion.

A member of Punjab Bar Council Ishtiaq A Khan told the bench that the bar had revised its rules permitting the graduates of 2016 to apply for admission in the 3 years LLB programme.

He said that PBC also decided to end afternoon or evening classes in order to maintain the standard of the legal education.

Punjab Bar Council had earlier imposed ban on admission in LLB 3-year programme.

Some law students had approached the court through Advocate Safdar Shaheen Pirzada against the policies.
