Lahore, Vice Chancellor Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) Dr. Sabiha Mansoor along with Deans and senior faculties visited the campus and inspected various buildings and auditorium regarding tomorrow’s convocation. The rehearsal of 9th Convocation is being held today morning in the auditorium. Governor Punjab Sardar Latif Khosa will preside over. Vice Chancellor said that 885graduates ofBS, MS / M.Phil and Ph.D. scholars in Natural Sciences, Engineering, Technology and Management Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities and Islamic and Oriental Learning will receive their degrees tomorrow . In the year 2002, there were only 4672 students enrolled whereas at present in 2011, 9852 students are studying in various departments posing a tremendous challenge to provide quality higher education. university's overall results are impressive with 99.2 pass percentage for Under-graduate and 100% for the Post- graduate.
She said that the importance of education is quite clear. Education is the backbone of any nation and higher education more so in terms of providing future leaders who have a strong knowledge base and skills which contribute to the national development and prepare our youth to meet the challenges of modern world with dignity and confidence.
LCWU faces many challenges notable among them being, low quality of higher education; few women graduates joining workforce; threats of extremism; and high level of poverty. To combat these challenges, LCWU as one of the oldest and largest women university, must play an effective role in nation building. Linkages and research collaborations have been established with universities in Japan, UK, Kuwait, Thailand, Australia, and USA in the field of Environment, Zoology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Botany, Education and Fine Arts. in 2011 LCWU established links with Chester University, UK in the field of Environment and Education under British Council Project.
