Lahore: University of the Punjab and Abacus Consultants teamed up to create an examination management information system (EMIS) to replace the current one.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony was held at the registrar office of the varsity. This was stated in a statement issued by the university on Wednesday.

As per the statement, the new system will have different salient features.

For example, the candidates will be able to submit their admission forms, rechecking forms, subject or centre change forms, degree forms and degree verification forms completely through online access.

A bar code will be automatically provided by the system when the applicants print the form.

The same bar code will be utilized to deposit fees in a bank via system generated challan form.

It further added that the new system will contain a reliable and secure award management mechanism to ensure the timely and error free result preparation.

It would be developed to minimize the requirement of the candidate to physically come to university, which will save a lot of time of the office as well as of aspirants.

The EMIS system will be flexible enough to accommodate all existing and future examinations by offering customized rule set definitions.

Furthermore, colleges will be able to submit their affiliation request, adjustments in increase and decrease of intake limits and affiliation team visit requests. Private candidates will be able to self-register online by providing information about their roll number, year, session, board, university and address etc.

The system will automatically print the due fee and the particulars of the candidate according to the schedule notified by the university.

The candidates will be able to print their roll number slips and centre information from the website. Candidates can also bet them by sending SMS on a unique number for the university.

The new system will provide a way to define examination buildings and centres using location, capacity as well as other related parameters.

The system would assist along with the management of material, including questions papers and answer sheets in accordance along with the data entered through admission forms.

The controller of Examinations of University of the Punjab Prof Dr Shahid Munir, Acting Treasurer Rao Muhammed Sharif, Abacus Consultants Managing Director Abbas Khan and other officials attended the event.
