Lahore, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran University of the Punjab Lahore chaired the 6th meeting of "Dengue Research Group" in Centre for Undergraduate Studies. According to the facts and figures gathered in the recent dengue crisis, a total of 566,522 people came to all hospitals of Punjab till November 27, 2011. This report said that only 3.8 percent of the total, were tested positive for dengue.
According to it, out of this figure, 21,132 patients got cured and only 337 people died. Dr Noor Fatima from Fatima Memorial Hospital said that according to the analysis of the data found in the recent research project, level of awareness in the people about dengue transmission and prevention needs to be scaled up.
VC PU said that it was encouraging that progress had been made in a very short period of time. Experts from different universities like University of Health Science, Fatima Memorial Hospital, WHO and Mayo Hospital also participated.
