Lahore: The government of Punjab is allegedly thinking about closing down schools for a limited time period fearing toxic smog covering the province these days.

This statement was given by advisor to Chief Minister on Health Salman Rafiq whereas he was talking to media persons.

Smog has caused total 610 road accidents in all 36 districts of Punjab during these last 24 hours, killing 20 people and leaving another 506 wounded, a private news channel reported.

Health experts have said that the patients of asthma should take special care of themselves during the haze.

As per the DG Metrological department, Dr Ghulam Rasool, the thick layer of smog covering Lahore as well as other regions of central Punjab for more than last 48 hours will prevail for next two months almost.

“This situation is going to last till the end of next month, because it has not rained in the central Punjab since October,” said Dr Ghulam Rasool, Director General of the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

In the meantime, chief Minsiter of Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif formed a committee on Wednesday to fight smog, affecting daily life of residents particularly the motorcyclists.
