LAHORE: Punjab University Department of Space Sciences has moved into a new building that was inaugurated and examined by the Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran. Public Relations Officer of the VC Prof Dr Jamil Anwar, Prof Saleem and Department of Space Sciences Chairman Dr Muhammad Ali were also present on the occasion.
The department focuses on four disciplines: remote sensing and geographical information system, satellite communications, astronomy and astrophysics and weather study. Addressing the gathering, the VC said he was pleased that the department had acquired a separate building, and advised the students to fully use the facilities provided in the department and work on their research projects.
He said the department needed more funds for its equipments, and the varsity was trying to generate more resources. He said the total budget of the university was Rs 3.4 billion out of which the Higher Education Commission (HEC) was providing Rs 1.1 billion only. Dr Muhammad Ali thanked the VC on behalf of students and teachers for providing funds for the construction of the building. He said the department was offering graduate and post-graduate degrees in the space sciences programs.
