Lahore: Lahore High Court on Monday suspended a notification of the Punjab Higher Education Department that restricts the aspirants to get admission in intermediate part 1 having a 5-year academic gap after passing matriculation.

LHC also ordered the Faisalabad education board to accept the admission of a student (petitioner), who passed his matriculation in 2011.

Muhammad Irfan contended through his counsel Imran Ghumman that he failed to continue his education after passing matric because of some financial issues.

He said that after the gap of 6 years in 2016, he applied for his first-year admission to a government college located in Faisalabad.

Though, the counsel told the court that the college management denied admission to the petitioner on the excuse that there was policy of the higher education department (HED) to grant admission only to those candidates who had an academic gap of less than 5 years after matriculation level.

The lawyer argued that the challenged policy of the department was against the Constituents as well as fundamental right to get education.

He requested the court to set aside the notification of the department and permit the petitioner to continue with his education.
