Rawalpindi, Twice a year, the Pir Mehr Ali Shah-Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) invites all organisations which are interested in participating in the Autumn Flower Show for the display of floral stalls and a variety of chrysanthemums in the university, said Pakistan Science Foundation Chairman Dr. Manzoor H. Soomro.  He said this while the inauguration of the Autumn Flower Show at the PMAS-AAUR. 

The flower show will remain open for the public so that people could know about autumn flowers and witness their wide variety displayed in the university. “We will hold prize distribution ceremony on Monday evening so that people can see the flower show for two full days,” he said. The flower show opened with an aim to offer advanced techniques in the field of growing and production for the promotion of floriculture. 

The show has been organised by the PMAS-AAUR’s Department of Horticulture in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Islamabad, that is expected to provide a platform to growers, researchers and buyers to share their experience in the field of floriculture.  

The institutes which are participating in various categories of the show included Allama Iqbal Open University, Institute for Landscape and Floriculture, Pakistan Air Force, KRL, Chaklala Cantonment Board, PHA, RDA, SPD, Suparco, Indonesian Embassy, Gun and Country Club and Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi. Special segments of flower arrangements and cut flowers segments were also included in the show. In flower arrangement and cut flower show, more than 50 participants will participate from different colleges, schools, institutes and also on individual level.

PMAS-AAUR Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Khan in his address said that Pakistan had a very fertile land, which was suitable for producing plants and flowers but little attention had been paid to this sector so far.

A representative and horticulturalist of the KRL, Liaquat Ali Khan, said: “We look forward to such shows to display a vast variety of flowers. There are at least 256 colours of Chrysanthemums among which we have displayed 170 varieties in the show.”
