The resolution to convert PM House into a University of international standards has been first expressed by PM during his first speech after getting elected. This resolution has now taken practical form after 100 days of his tenure. PM Imran Khan has launched National University in Islamabad on Friday.

During the launching ceremony of National University Pm Imran Khan expressed, ‘When I made Shaukat Khanum, people asked me how would the poor be treated for free. I had faith that there will be a Centre of Excellence, any society that has progressed it is because they focused on education and human development. If a small class of people makes money, then the country cannot progress, this was a revolution for the world that there is nothing higher than education, the change came in me after my visit to Britain and looking at how the people lived there’.

He further said, ‘Education is the top priority of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government and enough funds are being made available for higher education in the country’. The chairman of HEC Dr Tariq Banori said that the University will have research based courses and programmes for postgraduate level, including MPhil and PhDs.

Dr Tariq Banori said that the University will give high quality education and in its second phase of construction 30 acres of PM House area will be utilized for establishing more departments for undergraduate programmes. Initially the University will be teaching governance related subjects and later other courses will be gradually added.

The PTI government has been paying keen attention to development of education at all levels. The conversion of PM house and other non functional governmental buildings into educational institutes will save a huge amount of money that used to be spent for their maintenance. During the launching ceremony PM Imran Khan said that the National University will eliminate the gap of quality of education between private and public institutes.

In first phase of establishment of Islamabad National University, an institute of Advanced Studies will be developed. For the establishment of further departments and institutes, separate committees will be formed which will evaluate the draft charter of the University before the PM and then further progress will be planned.

During the initial meeting regarding formation of National University, the officials had informed press that the University will be offering high quality postgraduate programmes. ‘[The] PM House will become a high-quality university or institution that will be unique with its education in Pakistan was said by Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood.

The admissions in the University will be however based on merit and fee package will be affordable. The PTI government has been working to implement on the policies which can assure uniformation of education. The quality of education available to the privileged class of society should be approachable to every Pakistani student despite their average or low financial background. It is anticipated that the University will start its classes in some month next year.
